Ash Wednesday and Good Friday in the Roman Rite, including Canada, are days of fasting and of abstinence from meat. Fasting is understood as being one meal and two other collations which, when combined, do not equal a meal. The law of fasting binds those from 18 to 59 years of age. The law of abstinence from meat binds those who are 14 and older. Parents and educators should introduce children gradually to the understanding and practice of penance. The actions modelled by adults will be the greatest influence in this matter.
Wishing everyone a blessed Holy Week.
